Wolfgang, Part Four

(Deepest apologies with the late update. Pesky real life interferes with a person's fun)

From the journal of Annechen Lowey

From the journal of Amarantis Belfire

The Tent Of Baron Klaus Wulfenbach

Fuzz entered the tent and found the Baron and his son sitting at a table, looking over several documents. Gilgamesh looked up and was about to scold the sheriff for entering without knocking, only to be stopped by his father clearing his throat. Fuzz walked up and looked over the Baron's shoulder, reading the document in hand. The Baron pinched the bridge of his nose.

"Seems things are running smooth in your homeworld." Fuzz noted.

"Yes." The Baron replied, "I will need to make the occasional trip there, to make sure things stay running smooth."

Fuzz nodded, "And to make sure you haven't been overthrown by one or more factions out to see the end of your rule."

The Baron sighed, then nodded

"The Chief's name," Fuzz said, "is Thunder Paw. Well, least that's his Lycan tribal name. For now, that's going to have to do."

Gilgamesh picked up a pencil and wrote the chief's name on a piece of paper. The Baron nodded.

"I see." The Baron said, "He will help young Wolfgang?"

Fuzz shrugged, "Hard to say. He is a proud man, and places the safety of his people above all else. Me being a born Lycan gives me some leverage with them, but not much. Like most natives, even the non-Lycans, they find it hard to trust the white man."

Gilgamesh looked at Fuzz, "And if they refuse to help us?"

"We leave." Fuzz replied, "And hope my cousin has returned to Steelhead. Then we can use his traveling cabinet to take Wolfgang to Moldavia and to my tribe. I let this go too long, Wolfgang needs to learn to control this."

"Worse case scenario, Herr Sheriff?" The Baron asked

Fuzz turned his head towards the entrance of the tent, then looked back at the Baron, "Wolfgang being unable to control the beast within will be a danger to those around him. Even a young Lycan can be extremely lethal."

Around The Campfire

Annechen sat next to her son at the campfire. Nearby, Veles, Maxim, and Greegar stood guard. Fuzz walked out of the tent and looked at the Jaegers.

"Veles," Fuzz said "you guys sit down at the fire, and don't look so menacing. We're past the Steelhead boundaries, and in someone else's territory."

Veles looked at his fellow Jaeger's then at Fuzz, "Hokay, Sheriff, if hyu say so. Hy'm chust gettink dis schtrange scent in de air, und it's onnervink."

Fuzz stopped in near Annechen and Wolfgang and then sniffed the air. He then put his hand on his holster, then motioned for the Jaeger's closer to the fire.

"Maxim" Fuzz said to the purple Jaeger, "you're with me."

The two then headed off into the darkness.

Deeper In The Forest

The corpse was found under some brush. Maxim had seen many horrors in the past, but the view of this corpse made him slightly ill.

"Zumone skinned dis person" he said

Fuzz nodded, then pointed at the side of the head, "Notice his ears are gone? Means he was shot and killed in Lycan form."

"Dey killed him und den skinned him? Oh ja, it's pretty obvious."

"When you die as a Lycan, sometimes, your corpse can revert back to human. Sad thing is, if you're skinned, your wolfskin remains. Werewolf hunters are notorious for taking pelts of Lycan's they've killed."

Hearing a noise, Maxim reached for his weapon, only to have Fuzz stop him from grabbing the handle.

"Hyu are fast, Herr Sheriff."

Fuzz turned to see the white wolf standing close by.

"Does de volf tink ve deed dis?" Maxim asked

Fuzz shook his head. The wolf stared at Fuzz, then turned and disappeared into the forest.

"Maxim," Fuzz said, "let's get everyone packed up and on the trail, and let's do this quickly."

On The Trail, Two And A Half Hours Later

Fuzz got off his horse and looked around the dark forest. He then looked at the others.

"Ok," he said, "here."

As the others dismounted, Annechen glared at the Sheriff.

"What?" he asked

"You said that you would keep no more secrets." she said

"Yes."

"Then tell me, what was back there that we had to leave suddenly?"

"Dead body." Fuzz replied. "Someone skinned him, too."

Annechen looked at Fuzz, wide eyed.

"We needed to get to the Tribe of the White Fang." Fuzz continued

"Then why have we stopped?" Gilgamesh asked, his voice showing a hint of aggravation "How much futher until we get to this tribe?"

Fuzz motioned around, "They're already here."

The Europans looked to see several Native Americans and Lycans standing around them. The Lycans eyes were glowing red. The Native's had their arrows pointing at the party.

"Ah, dis must be de velcomink komittee." Greegar said, smiling, "Do hyu tink dey hef schnacks?"

To Be Continued
(In which we'll see if the tribe decides to help Wolfgang. But, will the combined forces of the Jaeger's and the Lycans be enough to deal with the werewolf hunter in the forest?)

Wolfgang, Part Three

From The Journal Of Veles JagerMonster

Sheriff's Office

Fuzz sat behind his desk. Wolfgang sat in the chair on the other side of his desk, after having spent the rest of the night in the smaller cell. Baron Wulfenbach, Eugenia Burton, Annechen Lowey, Gilgamesh Wulfenbach, Mother Superior, Forelle Broek, and Willard the Rat were around Fuzz's desk. All but Fuzz, Wolfgang, and Mother Superior were talking at once. Finally, Fuzz held up his hand, all went quiet, except for Willard who was still squeaking. He then stopped, looked around, then stared at Fuzz.

"Where are we going to find a possum willing to do that in this area?" Fuzz asked Willard.

Willard sighed, then hopped off the desk and headed towards his cell. Fuzz opened his desk drawer and pulled out a small pouch.

"Mother Superior," He said, "will you please get me a glass of water?"

Mother Superior nodded, then headed out. Fuzz looked at the company present.

"Forelle, why are you here?"

The lawyer cleared his throat, then answered, "As Miss Burton's attorney, I feel I should be present for all to discuss the damages that was done by young Master Muircastle, here."

Annechen looked at Eugenia, "I will pay you for the chickens that went missing, Genie. It's the least I can do."

"No," Eugenia replied, "I couldn't ask for that. Perhaps, something else could be arranged."

Fuzz raised an eyebrow, "Such as?"

"Oh...." Eugenia said, glancing over at the Baron, "Perhaps, Klaus could discuss it over a little candlelit dinner."

The Baron's reply was a pinching of the bridge of his nose. Fuzz looked at Eugenia and shook his head.

"Very well," Eugenia said, throwing her arms up in the air, "I have wood that needs chopping. I suppose a few days of that will make up for the damages done."

Mother Superior returned with the glass of water and placed it on Fuzz's desk. Fuzz pulled a small packet from the pouch, and looked at Wolfgang.

"How do you feel?" he asked

Wolfgang looked nervously at his mother and the Baron, then looked at Fuzz, "I think I'm going to throw up."

Fuzz nodded as he poured the packets contents into the glass of water. The water started to fizz and bubble slightly.

"Surprised you haven't done that when you started eating the chickens....raw." he said, sliding the glass closer to Wolfgang, "Drink that. It'll help."

After Wolfgang drank the contents of the glass, Fuzz motioned for Mother Superior to take Wolfgang out of the room. After the two left, Fuzz looked at Annechen.

"I owe you an apology." he said, "I've had Veles keep an eye on Wolfgang, and he's been reporting to me on the matter. I asked him not to tell you anything."

"As the legal representative of Annechen Lowey..." Forelle began, before quickly stopping after Fuzz's eyes started to glow red.

Annechen shook her head, "I asked for your help, Sheriff, and you kept things from me. IS he going to become...."

"I don't know." Fuzz replied

Gilgamesh looked at Fuzz with a puzzled look, "The chicken situation wasn't convincing enough?"

Fuzz chuckled, seeing as he was the only one who saw amusement in the situation, he chuckled again, "The problem is.....we don't know if Wolfgang has the lycanthropy disease or not. He was attacked by a creature, yes. BUT, there's the possibility that he may not turn. In his mind, since he was attacked by the rogue lycan, he may turn into one. The sleepwalking, the attacking the chickens....it could be his mind, brilliant as it may be, playing tricks on him. There've been several full moons since his attack, and he never changed. The sleepwalking's been getting worse these past few nights. Tonight is a full moon. This is when we'll find out for certain. If nothing happens, we'll send him to Caledon. There's a doctor there that will help him deal with this particular mental problem."

Annechen sat down in the chair and looked at Fuzz, "And if he does....would he be savage.....could you help him control it?"

"If he changes," Fuzz replied, "we're going to need more help than I can give, and I must break a promise that was made in order to help Wolfgang. In the meantime....he needs to be kept in a safe place. Lock and key. I would offer the cell, but I don't think it's something he'd like......"

"The Consulate has a few observation rooms," The Baron said, "perhaps we could keep him in there. Place a few of the Jaegerkin to guard the door..." he looked down at Annechen, "just in case."

Fuzz nodded, "I think it would be best to keep him in familiar surroundings."

Annechen stood up and glared at the sheriff, "I am still angry at you for keeping this information regarding my son from me."

Forelle walked behind Fuzz's desk and stook beside the Sheriff, "As Sheriff Ortega's legal representative..."

"Forelle." Fuzz interupted.

"Yes, Sheriff?" Forelle asked

"She's right."

"Ok...but, never fear, I WILL represent you, should it go to court."

Gilgamesh chuckled, Annechen rolled her eyes, Eugenia blew a kiss at the Baron, and the Baron nosepinched. Without a word, Annechen stood up and left the office. The Baron and Gilgamesh followed. Eugenia looked at the Sheriff.

"Fuzz," she asked, "candlelit dinner?"

"Sorry, Genie," Fuzz said, "Bachelor For Life."

"Oh poo" she replied, then left the room.

Forelle chuckled, then started to leave. He stopped as Angelica walked into the office, carrying a few wrapped packages. Nervously, he tipped his hat to her, then hurried out. Angelica studied him as he left.

"That's my lawyer." Fuzz said

"Familiar looking." Angelica said, turning back towards Fuzz. "Something involving Pinkertons. Mind you, so many cases come in and out....it's hard to keep up. Lawyer?"

Fuzz nodded, "Maybe he represented someone Pinkerton apprehended."

Angelica nodded, half listening. Fuzz grabbed one of the packages.

"This for me?" he asked

Angelica smiled, "Only if you want to be the owner of a doll. These are for Anya."

"Ah, ok.....last doll I had, I used for target practice." Fuzz said

Angelica placed the packages on the desk, then punched Fuzz, "You big flea bag, that was my doll and you stole it from me."

Fuzz rubbed the place where she punched him, "Yea.....well, at least I didn't turn the cat's fur purple."

Angelica thought for a moment, "But it was a pretty purple color."

Fuzz nodded in agreement.

Outside the Europan Observation Room, Later That Evening

Greegar and Maxim sat outside the room, both looking at each other.

"Hy kould be at de dance." Greegar said, "Ve gaff our report to de Kaptain. Vy does he make us schtay here?"

Maxim shrugged, "Dis iz hall nev to de Baron. No verevolfs in Europa. Zum uf de schtaff are nervous."

Greegar nodded

Inside the Room

Wolfgang sat on the edge of the bed, reading the dime novel he had bought. He had reached to the part where Sheriff Ortega steered the airship through the eye of the storm, and began to wonder who writes such impossible stories. Suddenly, his whole body started to quiver. He glanced out the window and saw the full moon appear as the clouds moved. Suddenly, he began shaking violently. He lunged forward and knocked the lantern off the table.

Outside the room

The two Jaeger's heard the noise. Maxim held up his weapon, as Greegar slowly unlock, then open the door. The room was pitch black. Very cautiously, Maxim walked closer to the doorway and peered in.

"Volfgang?" he asked

The answer was a growl, followed by the sound of a window breaking.

Kokopelli Stage

The residents were enjoying the Friday night festivities, along with a few residents of the Steeltopian empire. The Steelhead children were cheering as Hawc DeCosta fired off the fireworks that Tensai had left for the event. Fuzz watched his sister finish the dance with a young man, then walked over to her as the man walked away.

"Wonder what he'd do if he found out that you're fifteen years older than he is?" Fuzz asked

"You're going to get smacked." was her reply, she glanced at the Europan's who were dancing close by. "Annechen Lowey has a lot on her mind."

Fuzz nodded, "Mad at me for not giving her all the information that I was getting. I really wasn't sure what to expect."

"You know what to expect now?"

The reply was a few screams from the edge of the Kokopelli property. Fuzz looked over as a werewolf, slightly smaller than the Fuzzwolf, roughly six feet tall, snarled as it entered the area.

"I was expecting the Consulate building to be difficult to get out of once you're locked in." Fuzz said

Veles and a couple of residents held up weapons at the werewolf as it came closer. It snarled and swung at them. Fuzz ran forward.

"STOP." Fuzz ordered the group, he looked as Greegar and Maxim came running up, weapons raised, "Weapons down. Everyone....stand back. Don't go near...."

He stopped when he saw his daughter walking closer to the werewolf.

"Anya." he whispered

The werewolf looked at the little girl and snarled ferociously at her. Anya didn't budge. She merely looked into the lycan's eyes.

"Fuzz..." Angelica whispered nervously, "do something."

All was quiet, except for the werewolf snarling. It was Anya who broke the silence.

"Wolfgang," she pleaded with the Lycan, "No"

The werewolf stopped snarling, and looked at Anya. He looked around at the frightened crowd. His expression suddenly turned into fear, and he started sobbing. Fuzz walked closer, taking his jacket off, as the werewolf slowly started to change back into that of the 13 year old Europan. Fuzz placed his jacket around the sobbing boy as his mother ran up to him and comforted him. Veles walked up to Greegar and Maxim to start to scold them for letting Wolfgang escape, but was cut stopped by Fuzz.

"It's ok," Fuzz said as he picked up Anya, "And you.....Now I know how Miss Katt feels when I go off on some wild adventure."

"I'm sorry, Papa" the six year old replied

Fuzz hugged his daughter, then glanced down the streets of Steelhead. Putting her down, he walked to the end of the Kokopelli property and knelt down on one knee. Anya stood beside him, her hand on her shoulder. Everyone watched as a white wolf came out of the shadows and walked up to Fuzz. Wolfgang looked over to see the wolf staring at him. The wolf then looked at Fuzz.

*Yes* the wolf told Fuzz in wolfspeak, then turned and disappeared into the shadows.

"Yes what?" Anya asked her father.

Angelica gave Anya a surprised look, "She understood Wolfspeak?!!?"

Fuzz stood up, looked down at his daughter, then looked at Angelica, "I'm going to be shocked later, I promise."

He walked over to Annechen and Wolfgang, the Baron and his son walked closer to listen.

"From now on," Fuzz said, "I shall be open and honest with both of you. Wolfgang will need to control this. So, we're going on a trip."

"Where to?" Annechen asked

"Past the large oak tree."

The Baron looked at Fuzz, "Pardon?"

"There's a tribe, The Tribe of the White Fang, their village is a two day trip past that oak tree. That entire area is their land. They wished to be left alone, and not be bothered."

"You could not trust us?" The Baron asked, "Herr Sheriff, if you were to tell us the reason why...."

"I swore on the love of the Mother Wolf, never to reveal anything about them." Fuzz said, "Only in the most extreme cirumstances am I allowed to break that pact."

Anya looked up at her aunt with a puzzled look. Angelica shook her head.

"Lycan superstition," Angelica whispered to her, "they think that the Mother Wolf will come out of the sky and eat them if they broke their word."

"When do we leave?" Annechen asked

"Day break. Hope you enjoy camping out, because there are no luxurious hotels between here and there." Fuzz replied, he then turned to his sister, "She WILL come down and eat me if I ever broke my word."

"Pfft"

Town Hall Foyer

Fuzz walked out of his office and smiled as Tensai walked up to him.

"How was your vacation?" he asked

"Peaceful," she replied "....well, until I set off those explosives. But it was fun."

Lunar came in, carrying several suitcases, stacked on top of each other. He was barely able to see over the top.

"Oh, Lunar" Tensai said, "go ahead and take that to our house. I'll go through them, there."

Lunar sighed, then turned to head out. Tensai thought for a second then turned back to him.

"Oh second thought, you might want to go ahead and take them up to your office. There are some things I should just take out up there."

Lunar sighed, then headed towards the elevator.

"OH." Fuzz said, snapping his fingers, "Your elevator thing....stopped working for some reason."

"Oh dear." Tensai said, "Lunar, you'll have to take the stairs."

"There are no stairs leading to our office, dearest" Lunar said, exhausted

"Well find the ladder."

Fuzz watched Lunar walk out of the foyer, then looked at Tensai.

"Looks like he needs a vacation from his vacation." Fuzz noted

Tensai nodded, "He's always so tense. So, where are you off to?"

"Taking Wolfgang camping."

"Taking Anya, too?"

Fuzz shook his head, "Wolfgang's a werewolf. Need to teach him to control it. Angelica's going to take care of Anya. Oh, and....not to really put any stress on Lunar.....there's some werewolf hunter in the area."

"Jobias?"

"No"

Tensai shrugged, "No reason to worry, then. You can handle it. Good luck camping with the Baron."

Fuzz gave Tensai a puzzled look, then headed outside. There, he found Wolfgang and Annechen, both on horseback. Veles, Greegar, and Maxim were on a wagon, as The Baron and Gilgamesh were double checking some of the supplies.

"What's going on?" Fuzz asked

"Checking supplies." the Baron replied

Fuzz pointed at the Baron, "You're coming with us?"

The Baron nodded, "Ja. I think this would be an excellant opportunity. To learn more. That is why I have come to this dimension. Now, please, Herr Sheriff. Lead on, we have much ground to cover."

Fuzz threw up his arms, giving up on arguing, then mounted his horse. Soon, the party was heading out of Steelhead City, making their way to Steelhead Forest.

Deep Inside The Forest

He was a large man, with a bushy beard. He studied the ground, searching for the trail. He then found the lycan footprints. McGee smiled to himself, then headed deeper into the forest.

Wolfgang, Part Two

From Annechen Lowey's Journal

From Amarantis Belfire's Journal

The Farm of Eugenia Burton, Steelhead City

"That's not Jeremiah." Fuzz muttered to Mother Superior as they walked out of the barn.*

"Miss Burton seems to think that he is." Mother Superior replied, "She believes he has amnesia."

Fuzz looked at the barn, then back at Mother Superior, "I've seen amnesia victims, the majority of them do not have horns. Looks like an antelope."

"What of his scent? Is it the scent of Miss Burton's farm hand?"

Fuzz pointed to the mistletoe tree located on Eugenia's farm. When she originally planted the tree, her intention was for the Christmas events, hanging it over the doorway to kiss folks who entered (her hopes were for the Baron to walk under it), she was not aware of the tree having the ability to throw off the senses of a Lycan.

"Oh..." Mother Superior replied, "then the latest attack from the chicken thief will have to be solved by other means."

Fuzz motioned to the Jaeger's searching around the chicken coop, "Have to rely on the next best thing to a Lycan's sense of smell."

Greegar Hellershanks marched from the chicken coop up to the sheriff and saluted. Fuzz waved.

"Herr Sheriff, ve hef schniffed de entire chicken koop. Hall scents are from SCHteelheaders. De children, especially, like to visit Miss Burton's farm." the Jaeger reported.

Fuzz nodded, then headed towards the chicken coop. He looked over at Mother Superior, "And this happened as Genie was out discovering 'Jeremiah'?"

"Yes, Sister Christian checked the farm. Found nothing out of the ordinary, then continued on with her rounds. As she was coming back, she heard the commotion. When she returned, nothing but scattered feathers, and more spooked chickens."

"Herr Sheriff," Greegar asked, "do hyu schpeak to animals? Maybe de chickens kan tell hyu vat heppened."

Fuzz studied the inside of the coop as he replied, "Afraid Poultry isn't one of my learned languages. Mostly it's Wolfspeak. On occasion, I can speak a bit of feline. And there are times when Willard is griping and complaining that I wish I never learned the Ratspeak."

"What do we do, Sheriff?" Mother Superior asked

Fuzz turned and began to leave the farm, "I'm going to continue to investigate."

"Off the farm?"

"Yes, off the farm." Fuzz stopped and turned to Mother Superior, "But, keep an eye on 'Jeremiah'. He may not not who they think he is, and the only other Jeremiah I know that's familiar with Steelhead, could mean big trouble."

Outside Steelhead Town Hall

Fuzz made it back to town hall in time to see a large wagon pulled by a team of mules pull up in front. A large man with a coonskin cap was sitting in the wagon, which was covered by a tarp. He saw Fuzz and smiled. Baron Wulfenbach and Veles walked over, curious as to the newcomer.

"Hudson." Fuzz called out, "Haven't seen you in Steelhead in some time. Thought you gave up on doing business with us and stayed with those boys in Portland."

"Ah, Fuzz" the stranger replied, "Those boys in Portland are nothing compared to the fine folks in Steelhead."

Fuzz smiled, then looked at the Baron, "Hudson here's a trapper. One of the best. Used to bring in all kinds of fur. Lately, though, he's making a fortune selling Faux fur."

"Vat iz Faux Fur?" Veles asked

"A faux" Hudson explained as he got down from his wagon, "is a small creature. 'bout the size of a beaver. Cute, cuddly, adorable......dangerous."

Fuzz nodded, "Multiply like you wouldn't believe. They'll eat you out of house and home. Destroyed farm lands, forests, you name it. The only thing they're good for, is their fur. Better than any mink, fox, bear, or rabbit. The high society in Caledon are always looking for Faux fur to wear at functions."

"Ah," Wulfenbach said, "I've seen the fur coats that you speak of. Perhaps Herr Hudson would allow me to purchase some of his fur, depending on if he has plenty to spare."

Hudson smiled, then threw back the tarp, revealing the wagon filled with fur of the Faux, "Damn varmints were running rampant south of Seattle. I got plenty." He turned to Fuzz, "Where's the elf?"

"Vacation." Fuzz replied, "I gave him no choice. He and Tensai had been working non-stop. Katt's running things....until she screams in frustration, then I help with the bureaucracy."

Hudson nodded, then moved closer to Fuzz and whispered, "There's something else I need to show you."

Hudson led Fuzz to the rear of the wagon, and motioned to a large sack. He then opened the sack and revealed the gray and white fur inside it.

"Oh God." Fuzz whispered in shock.

"Yea," Hudson replied, "Got it off a trapper named McGee. Guy's bad news. Said he got it twenty miles east of here."

Veles looked at the fur, his eyes got wide, "Ho, dat looks familiar."

Fuzz looked at Veles, "It does? When did you see this?"

Veles looked at Fuzz, "De day dat Volfgang vas attacked. De kreature dat attacked him. His fur looked chust like dat."

Fuzz looked at Hudson, "Where's this McGee now?"

Hudson shrugged, "Still in Seattle when I left there. But he mentioned that he was returning to these parts, claimed that his hunting wasn't over yet."

Fuzz pointed at the sack, "I'll make sure you get compensated. Veles, if the Baron doesn't need you for anything, I need your help with something."

"Go ahead, Captain." the Baron said, "I will conduct business with Herr Hudson. I wish to present a special gift to Frau Lowey.....NOT a word to her."

Veles gave the signal of locking his lips, then followed the sheriff to the Europan Consulate. The Baron looked at the sack.

"McGee is a werewolf hunter, isn't he?" He asked

Hudson nodded, "Moment I heard his story, I bought the fur, then high tailed it to Steelhead."

"Herr Sheriff is able to take care of himself."

"It ain't Fuzz that needs the protecting."

Inside The Europan Consulate

Anya looked up from her school work to see her father looking in from the hallway and smiled. Fuzz put his finger to his lips, then motioned for her to continue with her work. She nodded, and went back to her studies. Fuzz then turned to Veles.

"The Europan children's dorm rooms?" Fuzz asked

"Gurls or boys?"

"Boys." Fuzz replied, "In particular, I wish to know where Wolfgang sleeps."

Veles nodded, then led Fuzz up the stairs.

Boys Dorm Room

Fuzz walked over to the bed that Veles pointed out as being Wolfgang's. It was pretty evident as it was the only one that wasn't made. Fuzz studied the mess.

"Tossing and turning." Fuzz noted as he got down on one knee and peered under the bed.

Veles nodded, "Oh, ja. Frau Lowey iz vorried sick about him. Herr Baron hes pinched his nose, Hy tink he might hef broken de bridge"

Fuzz got up, Veles didn't notice him putting something in his inside coat pocket. "We'll get to the bottom of this, Veles. Everything's gonna be ok."

Both looked up as a bell sounded.

"School's out" Veles noted

Fuzz nodded then headed out of the room and back downstairs.

The Consulate Hallway

Fuzz found Anya standing at the doorway leading out of the Consulate. He held out his hand as he started to walk by, Anya took it and walked out with him.

"Why is that in your pocket?" she asked

Fuzz looked at his daughter, who looked up, pointing at her nose. Fuzz nodded.

"Trying to help Mrs. Annechen and Wolfgang." Fuzz replied

"Is Wolfgang in trouble?"

"No," Fuzz said, "Sometimes we get forced into things we don't want. But we have to learn to deal with these things. The great thing is, we don't have to be alone when dealing with it."

"Aunt Angelica is right," Anya said, nodding "you DO talk weird."

"Your Aunt Angelica always says the nicest things about me."

Sheriff's Office

Mother Superior held several envelopes in her hand as Fuzz and Anya walked into the office. She handed the envelopes to Fuzz.

"One of those envelopes is a letter from Colonel O'Toole." Mother Superior said, "I hope that means he will be returning soon."

"Hard to say with Hotspur." Fuzz said, placing the envelopes in front of him as he sat down at his desk, "But if he's writing, that means he's on the mend and that the folks in Fusang have been taking real good care of him."

Anya pulled a chair behind Fuzz's desk and sat next to him, folding her hands on the desk and looking up at Mother Superior. Mother Superior smiled, then looked at the Sheriff.

"And what of the chicken thief?" she asked

Fuzz reached into his inside coat pocket and pulled out the chicken feather he found under Wolfgang's bed. "I need to get to it out of the way before tomorrow night. It's going to be a full moon."

The Edge Of Steelhead Forest

Fuzz knelt down on one knee and waited. The night air felt refreshing. He had been staying home at nights to be with his daughter, but too much was going on. After leaving Anya in the care of Miss Katt, Fuzz went do deal with the businesses at hand.

The first business was not a long wait, as the white wolf came out of the forest. She looked at the Sheriff, and the two began to converse in Wolfspeak. After a few minutes, the white wolf turned then headed back into the forest.

Fuzz then caught a scent in the air. He quickly turned and headed back towards Steelhead City.

The Farm of Eugenia Burton

Fuzz jumped over the fence to Eugenia's property and ran towards the chicken coop. He could hear the chickens in a frenzy. He ran into the coop and found the culprit.

"WOLFGANG" Fuzz yelled

Wolfgang spun around, two dead chickens in each hand. His eyes were glowing red. He looked at Fuzz and snarled.

Wolfgang, Part One

Baron Klaus Wulfenbach had ruled much of the country Europa for many years. A brilliant genius, known in his lands as a "Spark", living in a large airship known as "Castle Wulfenbach". Some say, he ruled his country with an iron fist. Many called him a tyrant. He prefered to study the nature of the Spark, rather to delve into politics.

As his side, were many advisors. His army consisted of creatures known as the Jaegerkin, or Jaeger. These were creatures that were once men, but given a special potion to turn them into the creatures. He has but only one son, Gilgamesh.

For many years, Herr Baron ruled the lands of Europa. Dealing with interlopers and adversaries wanting to overthrow his rule.

But there came a time that the Wulfenbach scientists created a device that could open doors between parallel worlds. The strongest of these doorways led to the world that consisted of the Independent State of Caledon, Steeltopia, the city-state of New Babbage, and Steelhead City, Oregon. Chosing Annechen Lowey, having a few other volunteer their services, and handpicking the right Jaeger's, Baron Wulfenbach set forth to this world and set up several consulates in different lands. Of all the advise that was given to the Baron before making this journey, one was made a priority by his advisors.

"Be careful of any contamination. Europa may not be able to handle things from this world if brought back to the Homelands."

The Baron and his consulate heeded the words of the advisors, and tried to remain careful of anything that Europans were not used to.

Then, there was the day that Annechen Lowey's son, Wolfgang, was attacked.....

From Annechen Lowey's Journal

Sheriff's Office, Steelhead City

"Chickens?" Fuzz asked

In front of his desk, Eugenia Burton nodded, "Missing. Three of them. The others look spooked."

Sister Alma walked up to the desk and smiled, "Any sign of foul play?"

"ALMA" Fuzz scolded the elderly nun, who merely shrugged and went about her business.

Eugenia hid a smile behind her hand, then looked at the Sheriff, "I know this sounds silly. Especially after all your recent adventures....."

Fuzz held up his hand, "Nonsense, after all those recent adventures, I'd love to look into the chicken theif case."

The Djinni smiled at the sheriff, "Thank you, Sheriff."

As Eugenia left the office, Lady Christine McAllister-Pearse and Fuzz's daughter, Anya, walked in. Fuzz gave a slight bow to Lady Christine, then smiled at Anya.

"Hi there." he said

Anya ran up and hugged Fuzz. Fuzz lifted her up and sat her on the desk.

"So, did you enjoy spending the afternoon with Lady Christine?" Fuzz asked

"Yes, Papa" Anya replied

"Did she teach you anything?"

Anya nodded

Fuzz smiled, "What did she teach you?"

Anya gave a big smile and replied, "You're her favorite sugar booger"

Fuzz's smile disappeared and he glared at Lady Christine, who smiled demurely. Fuzz looked back at Anya.

"There's some cheese in the top drawer, go feed Willard for me." he said

"Ok, Papa"

Fuzz walked over to Christine and shook his head.

"What?" she asked, "You are."

Fuzz smiled, "Thanks for watching her."

"You shouldn't worry about her. In Steelhead, she's safe."

"I don't worry about her." Fuzz replied

"OH?" Christine asked, "You haven't been looking out your window, staring at the Europan Consulate when the children are out playing?"

"Yes." Fuzz said

"Well?"

"If anyone was paying attention," Fuzz explained, "they'd notice I had been doing that for some time now, before Anya came to Steelhead."

Christine looked puzzled, "Why?"

Fuzz looked out the window and saw the Jaeger patrol walking out of the consulate, "I'll explain later. Have some business to attend to."

Fuzz took his hat off the hook on the wall then looked over at Sister Alma, "Alma, I'll be back in a minute. Keep an eye on Anya for me."

"Sure thing, Sheriff." the elderly nun replied

Fuzz walked out of the office, then walked back in, pointing a finger at Alma, "DON'T teach her anything until I get back."

Fuzz walked back out. Christine smiled at Anya, then left as well. Anya gave Willard a piece of cheese, then looked at Alma.

"Sugar Booger" she said, smiling.

Alma chuckled.

Outside the Europan Consulate

Fuzz leaned against the post, speaking with the Jaeger captain, Veles Munster. Despite his strange accent, Fuzz was able to understand the captain clearly.

"He hes been schleepvalkink, a lot. Ve do not know vere he goes. It hesn' affected his schtudies, accordink to Frau Lowey." Veles explained

"Every night?" Fuzz asked

Veles shook his head, "Frau Lowey hes hallowed him to go on patrol vith zum uf us, especially Sargeant Hellershenks. He seems heppy in de forest."

Fuzz nodded. "This.....could be nothing. I mean, since the attack, Annechen has kept me up to date on some of these things. But....at the same time, I think she's protecting him."

Veles nodded, "Ja, Hy try to ask her qvestions. But, scared uf beink hit vith de schtick. Hy vill try und keep hyu informed."

Fuzz chuckled, "Fine, Veles. Speaking of patrols. You've kept your word, haven't you? None of you have gone past the large oak tree?"

Veles nodded, "But vy? Vat iz so schpecial about dat place?"

"A promise that was made." Fuzz explained, "Official Steelhead Business."

Veles nodded. Fuzz turned to find Wolfgang Muircastle standing close by. Fuzz smiled.

"Hello, Wolfgang." Fuzz said

Wolfgang's response was a wave.

Fuzz walked closer to Wolfgang, "I want to thank you for helping Anya settle in. Very commendable of you. I'm sure most kids your age wouldn't want to waste time helping a girl of six. You're....what? Thirteen?"

"Yes sir." Wolfgang replied

Fuzz nodded, deep in thought, "I see."

He then quickly snapped out of thought.

"By the way, what food do they serve here? Anya seems to like the lunch she had today."

"I don't know what was served, today." Wolfgang replied, "I...I wasn't very hungry."

Annechen walked up to Wolfgang and put her hand on her son's shoulder, "Wolfgang, time for your studies."

"Yes, Mother." Wolfgang gave a slight bow to Fuzz, "Good day, Sheriff."

Wolfgang walked off. Annechen turned towards Fuzz, "There have been no signs of him changing. Do you think that maybe, perhaps, it wasn't.....I mean, he could remain normal....I don't mean that....."

"Sleepwalking." Fuzz said, "I wish I knew what happened to the wolf that attacked him that day. But, that's water under the bridge. All we can do now is wait. If you don't mind my asking, what would happen to Wolfgang IF he does show change and he's not able to control it?"

Annechen looked towards the Consulate, then back at the Sheriff, "He would probably have to remain here in this realm. Never to return to Europa. If.....he does return with us. He would probably be banished to the place we refer to as The Wastelands."

"Then," Fuzz said, "if the change happens, mother instincts and Europan diplomatic fuddy duddy will be of no use. You'll need to listen and trust me."

"You can teach him to control it?" Annechen asked

There was a moment of silence, then Fuzz replied, "Sure. Now if you'll excuse me. I have duties to attend to."

Fuzz walked up to Mother Superior, who was walking towards the town hall.

"Mother Superior," Fuzz said "chicken thieves."

"Chicken Thieves?" Mother Superior asked

"Yes. We have chicken thieves."

"Is fowl play suspected?"

"Ok.....you and Sister Alma.....you two stay away from my daughter."

The two laughed as they entered town hall. Annechen turned to find the Baron standing close by.

"He's hiding something." the Baron noted, "Like perhaps the boy may not be able to control it."

Annechen slowly nodded, "I sensed that, too. Perhaps it's because Wolfgang is not born a Lycan. It may be more difficult, but not impossible."

The Baron looked at his vice consul, "He will not be banished to the Wastelands. I have faith in Herr Sheriff."

The Consulate Dormitory, Later That Night

Wolfgang tossed and turned in bed. His body was covered with sweat. He sat straight up, staring around the room. He leapt out of bed, and walked over to the window. He opened it and sniffed the air outside. He then crawled out the window and lept to the ground. He looked around, his eyes slightly glowing red.

"Hunger" he snarled.

Wolfgang ran off, staying in the shadows, heading off towards Harborside.

Voices Of The Past, Part Five

Four Years Ago

Chicago, Illinois

Valerie walked into the room and found the two year old sitting on the floor, looking at the cover of a dime novel. She knelt down next to her daughter and looked at the novel.

"What have you got?" she asked, then smiled as she read the title "Ah, 'Sheriff Ortega In Griefer Flats'. Do you know who Sheriff Ortega is?"

Anya nodded and pointed at the picture of the cowboy in the gray suit on the cover.

Valerie smiled, "He's also your dad. Maybe one day, you'll meet him."

She got up and walked over to her desk. On the desk was an old book entitled "The Power Of Anthlar" in gold letters. She opened to book and continued reading, then noticed her daughter standing next to her, handing her the dime novel.

"Read" Anya said

"Not now, sweetheart, Mommy's got work to do." Valerie said.

"Read" Anya said.

Valerie sighed, then picked up her daughter. She opened the book and started reading.

"'Sheriff Ortega walked out of his home on the bright Monday morning and smiled at the townsfolk that walked by'," she looked at Anya, "I think this is clearly a work of fiction."

Four Years Later

Purdie's TARDIS

Fuzz looked at the gemstones that were on the table in Purdie's console room, then looked up at his Time Lord cousin.

"Oregon Sunstones?" Fuzz asked, picking one up

Purdie nodded, "Lunar and Tensai discovered a powerful energy source when they unearthed those stones. I was able to recharge the TARDIS when her energy went low. One more thing for Steelhead City to be famous for. It's in abundance there."

Angelica looked over the console controls, then looked at Purdie, "Are you sure this is in perfect working condition? I've noticed a bullet hole."

Purdie nodded, "Yes, yes. She's quite alright. I can get us to the Lady Dushku."

The TARDIS engines slowly stopped and there was a ding sound. Purdie went to the viewscreen side of the console and turned it on, pointing at the image of the airship known as The Lady Dushku."

"There, you see?" Purdie said, "There she is."

Fuzz looked at the image. Noting that the airship was docked and not flying. He looked at Purdie.

"We're at Port Caledon." he said

"WHAT?" Purdie said as he started flipping switches on the console.

"WHAT?" he said again, as he looked at the viewscreen, again.

"what..." he finally said as he looked at the readings on the viewscreen.

Angelica looked over his shoulder and read the readings, then looked at her brother, "We arrived two days after we left Steelhead."

Fuzz nodded, "Takes a couple of days by airship to get to Caledon from Steelhead. Maybe we're not too late."

Purdie pulled the lever to open the doors and the three stepped out of the TARDIS and onto the streets of Caledon. Angus GlitterRoch walked up to the trio, smiling. His first mate, Mr. Sideman, followed

"Fuzz," the green haired scottsman said, "If'n ya wanted to come to Caledon, ye could've come with Miss Greene and her friend onboard the Dushku."

Fuzz looked at his old friend, "Angus, where are they?"

Angus shrugged, "Dunno. They took off after we docked a couple of hours ago. Told us they'd be returnin' to Steelhead by other means and that we shouldn't wait up for them."

Mr. Sideman raised his hand and spoke up, "I told the Captain that they were acting suspicious."

Angus glared at his first mate, "And I said that ye were always thinking people were up to no good." He turned back to Fuzz, "So, Fuzz, why are ye here?"

"Valerie and her friend are up to no good." Fuzz replied, "Angus, have your crew take Purdie's box here on board. We'll be going back to Steelhead with you."

"Aye, Fuzz" Angus said.

As Fuzz, Angelica and Purdie ran off, Angus looked at his first mate, who was smiling. "All right..ye were right. In celebration, ye can get Mr. Uggla's box on board."

Sideman's smile quickly disappeared.

Up The Street From The Docks

As Fuzz, Angelica, and Purdie rushed down the street, Fuzz explained about the Cross Of Caledon.

"After we retrieved it from Ignatius Oglebee, it was given to Governor Shang, who then gave it to JJ Drinkwater, who placed it in a special exhibit at the Caledon Library."

Angelica looked up the street, "We're not going to get there very fast on foot."

Fuzz stopped and put two fingers to his mouth and let out a loud whistle. A horse drawn carriage came galloping towards the trio and stopped.

"Need a cab, guv?" the driver said

"Caledon Library." Fuzz said as they got into the cab.

"It's closed, today." the driver noted, "It's Sunday."

Fuzz nodded, "Figured that. Please take us there, and make it fast."

Outside the Caledon Library

Fuzz, Angelica and Purdie walked up to the library, trying to see past the crowd of people that gathered outside. Fuzz shook his head.

"Too late." he said

Angelica reached into her purse and pulled out her badge, "We may as well get ourselves inside. Purdie, got your psychic paper?"

Purdie smiled as he pulled out the paper, "Absolutely."

Fuzz nodded, then looked around, "You two go ahead and see what you can find out. I'll do some sniffing out here."

Angelica smiled, "No heroics."

Fuzz walked around the grounds as Angelica and Purdie made their way through the crowds and into the library. Fuzz then caught a whiff of a familiar scent and followed it. He walked across the street, and around a corner. He then walked into an alleyway between two stores. He slowly made his way down the alley. It was then that the familiar scent was gone, and the scent of wolfsbane hit his nose. He started to turn to leave quickly, but something hard hit him in the backof the head and he fell to the ground. Then everything went black.......

Somewhere In Caledon Underground

At one time, Fuzz had explored some of Caledon Underground. As he came to, the familiar smell and sounds of the underground area hit his senses, however, the scent of wolfsbane was still strong, and interferring with his senses. Other than the damp smell, he had no idea if he was alone. At first, his vision was blurred, but it quickly passed. He looked down to see that he was tied to a post with a silver like rope. He glanced up to see Sid Weezul sitting several feet away from him, nervously looking at him.

"How did you get out of prison, Sid?" Fuzz asked

Sid shrugged, "Wasn't guarded by nuns."

Fuzz shook his head, "Valerie hired you to help her? Thought she was way smarter than that."

"Actually," a male voice from the shadows said, "I hired Sid."

A man stepped out of the shadows and smiled at the sheriff, "So, you are the famous Sheriff Ortega? You wouldn't believe all the stories that are out about you. You, TotalLunar Eclipse, Tensai Hilra, and Kattryn Severine. Seeing as how you were this easy to capture, makes one think how easy it would be to defeat those other three."

Fuzz smirked, "Yea, word of advice, go after Tensai Hilra first. She's a real pushover. You must be Cyrus Slurge."

Cyrus bowed to Fuzz. "At your service."

Fuzz tried to break through the ropes, but the more he struggled, the tighter the rope got.

"I wouldn't bother," Cyrus said, "that rope is made from Mithril. Word has it the werewolves in the city of New Babbage have been kept at bay with that. It should hold you quite nicely."

Fuzz looked as Valerie Greene stepped out of the shadows. She looked at him and shook her head in disappointment.

"I should have known you'd follow." she said "And I almost hate to have you killed. Would have been so much better if you just stayed in Steelhead with Anya."

"Why are you doing this?" Fuzz asked

Valerie laughed, "Oh, come on. You want me to gloat over you, explaining our plan?"

"I know the plan," Fuzz said, "Use the gems, conduct the spell, obtain the power. But why? You'd leave your own daughter for this? You couldn't just settle down?"

Valerie slowly shook her head in disappointment, "Demetrius, you just don't understand, do you? You were just there to wet my appetite. Nothing more. And Anya.....She was an accident."

Fuzz narrowed his eyes as he stared at her, "So, you just played the happy little mother while you studied about the power?"

Cyrus looked at Valerie, "He is smart. I suppose, he's expecting to be rescued?"

Valerie smiled, then looked at Weezul. "SID!"

Sid jumped out of his chair and ran into the shadows. Fuzz heard the click of a switch, and the whole cavern lit up. In the center of the room, each gem from the stolen artifact was on the ground, in the middle of a circle. Around the circle, ancient text was written. Across the room, tied up to posts, were Angelica and Purdie.

"Hi Fuzz." Purdie called out. "Ummmm...they jumped us"

Fuzz smiled, then looked at Valerie, "Well, you beat us."

Valeried curtsied, "Always know your enemy."

Cyrus handed Valerie the dagger, "You know what to do."

Valerie nodded as she took the dagger. Cyrus and Sid walked over to Angelica and untied her from the post. With her hand still bound, she was taken to the center of the circle. Valerie walked over to Angelica. Fuzz screamed in anger. He began trying to break free, again.

Purdie watched as Valerie started to raise the dagger, then called out, "I wouldn't do that if I were you. Don't ignore me, either. I'm serious. What you want to achieve will not be accomplished by killing Angelica."

Valerie lowered the dagger, then glared at the Time Lord, "Tell me why?"

"What did the Power of Anthlar book tell you?" Purdie asked, "Obviously, you read the book, or else you wouldn't know about the power."

"A sacrifice in blood is needed in order to finish the ritual." Cyrus replied, he then turned to Sid, "Silence him."

"Human sacrifice," Purdie said, as Sid moved closer to Purdie. Just before Sid gagged Purdie's mouth, Purdie manage to say, "Angelica's not human."

"What?" Valerie asked, looking at Angelica

Angelica smiled, "Well.....obviously, even though I'm not a Lycan, I do have the blood running through me. I mean, I wouldn't be Fuzzball's sister if I didn't. That's on our Papa's side. On our mother's side, Time Lord. I mean, sure, there's some human bits and pieces floating inside me, but I'm not a full human. Oh.....and one more thing?"

"WHAT?" Valerie snapped

Angelica smiled, holding up her hands, showing that they were no longer tied together, "It's time for round two."

Angelica punched the surprised Valerie Greene, who dropped the dagger to the ground. Valerie tried to defend herself, but the sheriff's sister was too fast for her. Angelica hit Valerie with an uppercut, then a left hook, followed by a right cross. She then grabbed Valerie's arm and slung her across the cavern. Angelica was not expecting Cyrus to be standing nearby, as Valerie fell towards him, nor was anyone expecting Cyrus to lunge the dagger into Valerie as he caught her.

"Blood sacrifice," Cyrus said, grinning evilly to the shocked Valerie, "Human."

Angelica started to run towards Cyrus, only to be stopped by Sid Weezul, who had a gun pointed at the Pinkerton agent. She watched as Valerie fell to the ground. Cyrus held the blood soaked dagger over the gemstones in the circle. The blood dripped off the dagger and onto the stones. Suddenly, the gems started to glow and there was a rumbling. It was then that Fuzz, still in human form, managed to muster all his Lycan strength, and break the mithril rope. He fell to his knees. Looking at the power starting to emerge from the gems, he reached into his pocket. Pulling out the Oregon Sunstone, he tossed it onto the pile of other gemstones.

"NOOOOO" Cyrus called out

The Oregon Sunstone started to glow a bright orange. There was a bright flash, and then all was quiet.

"Never.......underestimate Steelhead...." Fuzz said. He looked over at Sid, "Sid......don't point that gun.....at my sister."

Sid smiled, "You're probably too weak to stop me from pulling the trigger."

Sid turned back to Angelica, who quickly punched Sid. Sid fell to the ground. Angelica picked up the gun and looked around. Cyrus had disappeared during the commotion. As she untied Purdie, Fuzz walked over to the lifeless body of Valerie Greene.

Purdie took the gag out of his mouth then looked at Fuzz, "How did you know the Oregon Sunstone would do that."

Without taking his eyes off Valerie, Fuzz replied, "I didn't......I don't even know what happened."

"Absorbed the energy." Purdie said, as he picked up the sunstone, "This universe is an amazing place. The power that these people tried to obtain, is now locked in this sunstone."

"How were they going to obtain it?" Angelica asked.

"Step into the circle," Fuzz said looking at her, "power gets absorbed into you. You become all powerful."

Angelica pointed at the Sunstone, "And what do we do with that?"

"New Gallifrey" Purdie replied, referring to the new homeworld of the Time Lords, "It'll be safe there."

Fuzz walked over to where his holster and gun was placed and put the holster on, "You two get Sid tied up and get the gems back on those artifacts."

"You able to hunt down Cyrus with no problem?" Angelica asked

Fuzz's reply was a smile and a wink.

Port Caledon

Cyrus hurried down the street, trying to find a quick way out of Caleon. He came up to a crowded marketplace. He smiled, thinking that he would be safe, lost in the crowd. Suddenly, the crowd ran to the sides of the street, revealing Steelhead's sheriff standing at the other end. Cyrus opened his jacket, revealing his holster and revolver. He smiled, knowing that the gun was loaded with silver bullets. He was getting more confident as he watched Fuzz's hand shake.

Thirty seconds went by. To many, it seemed longer. The two stared at each other, each waiting for the other to draw. Then, Cyrus reached for his gun. There was a shot. Cyrus fell to his knees, clutching his shoulder. He watched as Fuzz placed the gun back into the holster and turned to walk away. Cyrus aimed the gun at Fuzz. The whiskey bottle to the back of his head was the last thing that he remembered. Angus stood over the unconcious body.

"Ye don't go shootin' people in the back of the head," he said, "it tain't fair."

Later

Sid was sitting in the paddy wagon, waiting to be taken back to prison. The Caledon constables then placed the injured Cyrus into the wagon with Sid. His head was bandaged and his arm was in a sling. Fuzz, Angelica and Purdie stood nearby and watched as the horses pulled the paddy wagon away.

"Well," Purdie said, "I wish that the TARDIS was working. Might have been able to stop all this sooner."

"What's done is done." Angelica said, "Things are meant to happen a certain way. Even if we don't like a particular way."

Fuzz rubbed his chin, "Next time I'm in Caledon......."

"What?" Angelica asked

Fuzz looked at his sister, "Lycaon."

Caledon Regency Hospital

Fuzz walked into the room. The old wolf was still in the bed. The other wolves that stood by his side had already walked outside. The time was close.

Lycaon looked up at Fuzz, "Your heart........is......angry......and yet.......happy."

Fuzz knelt down in front of the old king, "It has been broken. And yet, someone special has entered my life. One who can mend that wound."

"I......know.......she......is special.......to you........and soon........to the land.....you protect......."

Fuzz looked at Lycaon, "What you wished to speak to me about.....it has nothing to do with me finding out I had a daughter."

Lycaon looked into Fuzz's eyes, "I wish.......it were......something.....as.....happy.....as that.....you...have done.......many wonderful........things.........earned.........great respect......."

"So I've been told." Fuzz whispered

"Your heart......your.....soul......it...is what.......makes you......well.....respected. But know this......Fenris' Bane.......'The Darkness Is Coming'........"

And with that, Lycaon, the king of long ago, who fathered the Lycans into being, closed his eyes and breathed his last breath. As the wolves outside, and in the forests of Caledon howled to mourn his passing. Fuzz bowed his head and said a prayer.

Steelhead Town Hall. A Few Days Later

Angelica explained to Lunar and Katt about the events of the robberies and how it was thwarted.

"So, the artifacts are being returned to their rightful place, and the Sunstone that absorbed the power is now on New Gallifrey. Purdie believes that now the gems on the artifacts are just that, gems to make the artifacts look pretty."

Katt nodded, "And their only purpose is for viewing. Very nice. And what of Lycaon's message to Fuzz?"

"Yes." Lunar said, "'the Darkness Is Coming'. What does that mean?"

Angelica shrugged, "I wish I knew. Somehow, it's tied into Fuzz's tribal name. I have no idea what it means. We could ask Fuzz or any Lycans....but they won't say. Which worries me."

"Aye," the Moon Elf said "If Fuzz won't say anything to you, nor will he say anything to us.....it is something very troubling."

"What I don't understand," Katt continued, "why she kept Anya, if she didn't wish to be a mother?"

"Orphanages will not take in Lycans," Angelica explained, "they're not equipped to deal with a Lycan once they reach the age of thirteen. And Lycan tribes do not take kindly to parents abandoning their young. They'd hunt Valerie down. Fuzz believes she put on the facade of the good mother while she studied about the ritual necessary to obtain that power. She drops Anya off here in Steelhead, then leaves. I guess she figured that once the power was in her grasp, we couldn't touch her."

"Never underestimate the power of Steelhead." Katt said, smiling.

The three looked to see Tensai standing at the entrance to Fuzz's office. They stood with her and looked in to see Fuzz talking with Anya as she prepared for her first day of school.

"Annechen Lowey, as I have been told," Fuzz said, "is an excellant teacher. You know, one of the nuns used to double as a school teacher, but they all wanted to be deputies, so when the consulate came to Steelhead...well......I'm boring you, aren't I?"

Anya smiled at Fuzz. Fuzz smiled back.

"Listen," Fuzz said as he sat down in front of her, "I don't know why people become greedy. Why they only care about themselves, and not those that should be important to their lives. But, I want you to remember, not everyone is like that. There are a lot of good people in this world."

Anya looked down at the ground, then looked at Fuzz.

"Can I ask you something?" she asked

"Sure, ask away."

"Are you my father?"

"Yes." Fuzz whispered as a tear rolled down his cheek.

Anya got up and sat in Fuzzball's lap and the two hugged each other. Lunar looked at Tensai who was wiping her eyes.

"Tensai," Lunar asked, "what's wrong?"

"I've got something in my eye." Tensai sobbed.

Caledon Regency Hospital

Professor Treloar Parx's wheelchair chugged down the corridors of the hospital. He entered into the room that he had entered several days earlier and looked at the doctor.

"How is he?" Parx asked, referring to the patient in the room.

"He's awake," the doctor said, "and quite well. However, as the matron told you, there is that one.....situation."

Parx's chair rolled closer to the bed. Parx looked at the patient.

"Hello." Parx said, "Do you remember me?"

"No." the patient replied, "Should I?"

"Yes, you should. We have known each other for some time." Parx said, "You have no memory of anything?"

The patient picked up a mirror that was on his bedside table and looked at it. The reflection of Jobias Barthelmess stared back.

"I have no idea who I am." was the reply

Voices Of The Past, Part Four

Seven Years Ago

Ortega Residence, Steelhead City

Fuzz walked down the stairs into his parlor, he glanced at the clock, noting that it was 2:15 am. He looked around the room. He reached into his pocket and pulled out the note that she had written. He unfolded it and read the note, again. It only had two words written on it.

I'm sorry.

He crumbled up the note and tossed it into the fireplace. He watched the fire burn the note, after it was completely burned, he walked back upstairs to return to bed.

"Best to be a Lone Wolf." he whispered to himself.

Seven Years Later

Main Street, Steelhead City

Fuzz, Anya, and Mother Superior walked towards town hall. As they reached the entrance, Sister Florence walked towards the sheriff.

"He's much better now." she told him "Both hearts beating. He's breathing normal. At present, he's picking out a new outfit to wear."

Fuzz looked at Mother Superior, who nodded and then walked off with Sister Florence. Fuzz smiled at Anya, and the two headed into town hall.

Inside the sheriff's office, Sister Alma glared at the jail cells. In one cell, Valerie Green leaned against the bars of the cell. In the other cell, Angelica Trescothick sat on a cot, glaring at the wall. On Fuzz's desk, Willard hid behind Fuzz's coffee cup. Normally, the rat would argue about people in his cell, but the look on Angelica's face made him think better of it.

Fuzz walked into the office and looked at Sister Alma and smiled.

"Sister Alma," he said, "Rosehaven Recipe's has a fresh batch of bearclaws. You should head over there and get a couple. I know you love those."

Sister Alma glanced at the jail cells and back at the sheriff. Anya looked, wide eyed at her mother in the one cell.

Fuzz sat behind his desk and looked through the paperwork that had piled up as he continued talking. Willard glanced at the cells, then back at Fuzz.

"Also, Mother Superior isn't too keen on the idea, but I'm thinking of asking the Europan Consulate if I could get a couple of Jager's to help out. They've proven to be very useful. Especially in a big fight. Lunar's been on this big kick about Steelhead's celebration. Soft spoken elf, but man, does he love to party. Oh, and we need to speak to Captain GlitterRoch. I don't want him drinking and piloting his airship over STeelhead." Fuzz looked at the last paper, then looked up at the elderly nun. "Also, Sister Alma, there's one more thing."

"Yes, Sheriff?" Sister Alma asked

Fuzz pointed at the jail cells, "What's my sister doing in jail."

"She was naughty." Sister Alma stated, handing him a piece of paper.

Fuzz read the charges, then looked at Willard, "I was in town and I missed all that." He read the paper, "Fighting, damages to the hotel, obstruction of justice, resisting arrest.....Valerie hit a nun?!?!"

"That was an accident." Valerie stated.

Fuzz looked at Alma, "Which one?"

"Sister Mary Finn." Alma replied

Fuzz shrugged, "I'd hate sounding disrespectful, but she is one ugly nun. Might be an improvement."

Alma shrugged. Fuzz got up and walked to Valerie's cell.

"Are you ok?" he asked in Moldavian.

"Huh?" Valerie replied, "Fuzz.....ask me in French or Italian. No offense, but your native language just isn't romantic enough for me to learn."

Fuzz nodded then looked at his sister, "Didn't Mama teach you better." he asked in Moldavian.

"You did the same thing to guys that hurt me." Angelica replied

Fuzz shook his head, "That was a long time ago. I mean if this was Pinkerton business....."

"oooo" Angelica said, eyes widening, "I am here on business, and it does concern something that involved you and her."

Fuzz looked at Sister Alma and in English, said, "I'll speak with the hotel manager about the damages. Sister Mary Finn will more than likely be ok, and I'm sure Valerie will forgive my overprotective sister."

Valerie shrugged, "Yea, I can."

Sister Alma opened the cell doors and let the two ladies out. Willard hopped off the desk and ran into the cell that Angelica had occupied. Valerie took Anya by the hand and started to walk out, when Purdie walked in with Mother Superior. He was wearing a dark suit with a scarlet tie. He squatted down and looked at Anya.

"Hullo." he said, smiling. "I'm Purdie. I'm the sheriff's cousin.......well....distant cousin.......well.....very distant cousin.....I'm sort of on the outer branches of the family tree. You must be Anya."

Anya nodded.

Purdie reached into his coat and pulled out his sonic screwdriver. "This is my sonic screwdriver. It's a very special tool. Watch." he looked over at Fuzz, "Fuzz, show us your revolver."

Fuzz took his revolver out of his holster. Purdie pointed the sonic device at the revolver. There was a high hum, and the revolver fell to pieces.

"Thanks a lot." Fuzz said, "Not that I needed a gun to keep the peace around here."

Purdie turned his attentiont back to Anya, "And you know the great thing about this device?"

"What?" Anya asked

The hum began again as Purdie waved the sonic screwdriver around Anya, "It doesn't hurt people."

Anya smiled, "Can I have one?"

Purdie shrugged, "Maybe when you're older."

"Come along, Anya." Valerie said to her daughter. "Let's leave Sheriff Ortega to tend to his business."

As the two left, Purdie stood up and walked over to Fuzz and Angelica.

"Angelica." He said, smiling, "Hullo. You're looking lovely as ever. You get that from your mother's side. Time Lord DNA."

"You've changed, Purdie." Angelica noted, also smiling, "I like it."

"DNA?" Fuzz asked

"The genetic makeup of lifeforms." Purdie explained, "Not many people in this time would be very familiar with it. Your local scientists would know."

"Ok, fine, but....this....DNA. Are you able to find out about Anya?" Fuzz asked

"You mean if she's your daughter? You can look at her and tell that."

Fuzz shook his head, "Seems she's developing heightened senses. I want to know if there's going to be a six year old werewolf running around."

"Ah." Purdie said, looking at his sonic screwdriver, "THAT I may be able to find out."

"Good," Fuzz said as he took his sister by the hand, "let's go and find out, and Sissy here can tell us what Pinkerton's up to that somehow involves Valerie and myself."

Steelhead Hotel

From the lobby, Cyrus Slurge looked over at Anya eating in the dining room. Valerie walked over to him.

"Don't look at her like that." she said

"She's not coming with us."

Valerie shook her head, "I'm going to leave her with the Sheriff. I've also managed to speak with Angus GlitterRoch. He'll get us to Caledon, and since I'm friends with the Sheriff, we got an extremely cheap price. We can leave as soon as you're ready."

"Good." Cyrus said, "And after we've become successful?"

"I won't be coming back to Steelhead, that's for sure." Valerie replied

Purdie's TARDIS

"Then," Angelica explained, "before I.....introduced myself to Ms. Greene, I recieved a telegram from headquarters. The Belt of Lady Chasity was stolen. That only leaves......"

"The Caledon Cross." Fuzz finished, "That's bad news."

Purdie studied the readings on his viewer, then glanced up at Fuzz, "Very.....bad."

"How?" Angelica asked, "Pinkerton's never figured that one out. I mean, they're just artifacts. What's so special about them?"

"The Molet Chalice has a large ruby on one side," Fuzz explained, "The Dagger of Anubis has a large emerald on the hilt. The Crown of Cornelius has a large pearl on the top. The Belt of Lady Chasity has an amethyst on it's buckle. The Golden Tock Lobster has two amber eyes. One of those eyes is slightly brighter than the other. The Cross of Caledon has a large diamond. The artifacts are nothing. Those gemstones...well....together, they unleash a great power."

"How great?" Angelica asked

Purdie looked at Angelica, "These ancient mucky mucks from way back seperated a great power and place bits and pieces into those gemstones. Bloodwing was after that power. This was during a time that he was,......less than cooperative."

"They placed the power into these gemstones," Fuzz continued, "and created these arifacts, placing a gemstone on each artifact. They managed to hide it from Bloodwing. When Bloodwing had possessed Darien, Darien's personality had softened Bloodwing, others had found out about this legend, and attempted to release that power for their own greedy purposes."

Purdie nodded, "But there's a problem. The power is not something that would make you wealthy or all powerful. It's a power of destruction."

Angelica nodded, "I have to get to Caledon. But first, what about Anya?"

"Simple," Purdie said, smiling, "Time Lords rule."

"We were descended from a Time Lord," Fuzz said " we count, right?"

Purdie nodded, "Basically, her heightened senses were awakened early. According to the info, she'll be ready for her transformation at age 13. You don't have to worry about a six year old werewolf running around Steelhead."

"Other than you, Fuzz." Angelica said, "I mean, you do act like a six year old, sometimes."

"I'm tellin'." Fuzz said as he walked out of the TARDIS.

"Like Mama's gonna listen to you." Angelica said

Outside The TARDIS

Fuzz walked out to find Mother Superior standing there, waiting for him. Angelica and Purdie walked out and looked at the nun. She was holding a note.

"Sheriff," Mother Superior said, "we have a problem."

Sheriff's Office

Tensai sat on the bench, holding a sobbing Anya. The look on Tensai's face was one of wanting to blow an unloving mother to smithereens. Lunar scowled and looked at Fuzz who was reading the note, then tossing it into his stove.

"She has 'business'," Fuzz told Angelica "Wants me to take care of Anya."

Tensai looked at Fuzz, "I am going to kick her ass....."

"Tensai," Lunar scolded, pointing at Anya.

"KICK HER ASS," Tensai continued, "for leaving her daughter behind."

Fuzz shook his head, "I'll talk to her when she returns..."

"She's not coming back," Anya sobbed

Fuzz knelt down in front of the bench and looked at Anya, "She is."

Anya shook her head, "I heard her tell that Cyrus guy. She doesn't want me."

"You heard her tell this Cyrus the same way that you smelled me?" Fuzz asked

Anya nodded, then looked at Fuzz, "Sheriff Ortega.....will you take care of me?"

Fuzz fell back onto the floor, surprised of the question coming from the little girl's mouth. Angelica smiled, while fighting back a tear, as did others in the room. Fuzz looked over at Mother Superior.

"Let's find out who this Cyrus guy is. Check the hotel, check the train station. Check anywhere he might have gone to." he then looked at the little girl, "A lycan has heightened senses, but a lycan also has a sharp memory. Tell me everything that you heard your mother and this guy talk about."

"Like the robster?" Anya asked

"Lobster." Angelica whispered

The Lady Dushku, Twenty Miles off the coast of Steelhead City

"Ach, she's a cutie, that little girl of yours." Angus told Valerie "Ye should be proud."

"Thank you, Captain" Valerie replied.

She walked over to Cyrus, who had a worried look on his face.

"You shouldn't have left her like that." Cyrus whispered, "He'll get suspicious and follow."

Valerie looked around the ship, then whispered, "Do you have the silver bullets?"

Cyrus nodded.

"Good. If he follows, use them." She reached into her purse and pulled out a dagger, "And I have something for his sister, should she try anything."

Voices Of The Past. Part Three

Seven Years Ago

Steam Sky City

Ignatius Oglebee ran down the corridors, clutching the Cross Of Caledon in his arms. Several feet behind him, a neko wearing a derby and a tall muscular man chased him. Ignatius pulled a pistol from his pocket and fired. Residents quickly ran to their windows to see what the commotion was about. The neko and his companion quickly jumped for the cover of a nearby doorway.

"He's a slippery bugger." the Irish Neko, Malcolm O'Malley noted.

His companion, Captain Jonathon Williamson nodded, "Not to mention armed. He's heading towards the docking bay. We can't let him get away."

"I think the others may not want him to leave so early." Malcolm said smiling, "Party's just getting started."

Ignatius continued running down the corridor, knocking over a couple of ladies, who had the misfortune of walking around the corner. Malcolm and Williamson continued to pursue, but Malcolm stopped to help the ladies.

"Malcolm" Williamson called out, "Let's go."

Ignatius turned another corner and saw two more ladies standing in the corridor. This time, one, Valerie Greene, held a rifle. The other, Lady Amanda Smythe, brandished a sword. Ignatius fired at a nearby pipe, the bullet burst the pipe and steam blew onto the ladies, providing the cover he needed. He then ran to a door that opened to a stairwell and ran down the flight of stairs. The ladies followed.

"I am shoving this rifle where the sun doesn't shine on him." Valerie fumed, "And then, I'm pulling the trigger."

The Duchess of Kensingworth smiled, "A proper lady, even in the heat of battle."

The two were joined by Malcolm and the Captain and they continued their pursuit. They reached the airship dock too late as Ignatius was already in his airship and heading out of Steam Sky City.

"Damn him." Malcolm said "Slippery bugger."

"It's ok." Lady Amanda said, "He's not sailing on to freedom just yet."

Ignatius sneered at the group, then turned his attention back to the front of his airship, to find another airship blocking his exit. Airship pilot Grover Mills smiled, knowing that the adversary was trapped. Ignatius aimed his pistol at Grover, realizing too late that the werewolf had jumped on board his airship. He quickly spun around to fire at the wolf, just as Fuzz backhanded him. Ignatius fell to the ground. The Fuzzwolf stood over Ignatius and growled at him.

"I GIVE UP" Ignatius called out in a frightened voice, as his pants became soiled.

Lady Amanda's Airship

In the study of her airship, Lady Amanda smiled at the group of adventurers she had gathered together to assist her in obtaining the treasures that were stolen.

"The Cross of Caledon is back in the Caledon Museum and the rest of the stolen artifacts are on their way to their proper museums around the world." she said, "And I have each of you to thank for this."

"Twas nothing," Malcolm O'Malley said, "the thrill of the adventure was enough for me. I think I got back those two lives."

"I would gladly do something like that, again." Grover Mills added, "If you require my services again, don't hesitate to ask."

From his chair near the fireplace, Fuzz looked at the group, "What about the secret that those artifacts shared?"

Captain Williamson nodded, "The Sheriff's right. If Ignatius found out....."

"It has been nothing more than myths and legends." Lady Amanda added, "If Professor Parx stated it as being mere poppycock, his exact words, I might add, this may not happen, again. Besides, Ignatius is a madman. He escaped from the sanitarium in Caledon, remember."

"I hope you're right." Fuzz said, he looked over at Valerie sitting across from him, shaking her head. "What?"

"You are such a spoil sport." she said, "All that adventure. That excitement. We won the day. You don't wish to celebrate with us?"

Fuzz shrugged, then looked at the fire in the fireplace.

"How about a private celebration then?" she asked

Fuzz looked back at her, "You are a wicked woman."

"You know me too well."

Seven Years Later
Sheriff's Office, Steelhead City
"He's wanted for spitting in public?" Fuzz asked as he looked at the wanted poster.
"Yes." Sister Alma said
Fuzz looked at the 80 year old nun, "Steelhead's such a dangerous place."

"10 dollar reward." Sister Alma pointed out

"You catch him, you can keep the reward." Fuzz said, "Don't worry, I won't tell Mother Superior."

Fuzz stopped as his hearing started to pick up a faint sound that started to grow louder and louder. His eyes widened and he ran out of the office, out of town hall, and into the street. He looked around, then watched as a grandfather clock appeared out of thin air in the middle of the street. Residents watched the clock appear, and then went on about their business. After all, it was nothing unusual.

Fuzz walked to the grandfather clock and saw Mother Superior walking towards him. He touched the clock and the door swung open, inside the familiar hum of the TARDIS console could be heard.

"Is it your cousin's?" Mother Superior asked

"I'm not sure." Fuzz replied, "He hasn't been seen since he left Koen in Fusang."

Fuzz sniffed the air, and caught a scent that was both familiar and different at the same time. Cautiously, he walked into the TARDIS.

The TARDIS Console Room

Fuzz and Mother Superior walked into the console room and looked around. Fuzz noted the blood trail on the ground and followed it. On the other side of the console, he saw a figure wearing a familiar purple outfit. The figure, however, wasn't familiar. Where as Purdie Uggla, Fuzzball's distant Time Lord cousin, was tall, muscular and youthful in appearance, this figure was of average height, a bit wiry, with a gray beard and middle aged. His gray hair was a bit long, just an inch or two above the shoulders.

"Purdie?!?!" Fuzz whispered

Just as Fuzz went to touch the person, the person sat up so fast that Fuzz and Mother Superior both jumped. The person then got up and looked at the console.

"Right," the person said, "nothing to worry about, Koen, we'll be well on our way."

The person looked around and smiled at Fuzz.

"Fuzz!" He said, "Are you in China?"

"I was." Fuzz whispered

"Sheriff," Mother Superior asked, "who is this?"

"I'm me." the person replied

"He's him." Fuzz said.

"Him who?" Mother Superior asked

"Purdie." the person replied, "Purdanielun Ultarius Ugglandreunder. Or, Purdie Uggla, for short....and for a quite cute play on words, although people tend to think that I'm female with that name, but I can assure you, I am one hundred percent Time Lord male and why are you two taller?"

"You're shorter." Fuzz said, still surprised at his cousin's new look, "You...regugitate...no....rejuvinated....You redid something."

Purdie looked at Fuzz, then reached into his pocket, pulling out a mirror. He glanced at the reflection in the mirror.

"Oh." Purdie said, "I regenerated."

"REGENERATED!" Fuzz called out, "That's it."

Purdie looked at Fuzz, a serious look on his face, "I left Koen behind on Fusang. We were being fired upon and....."

"Oh, don't worry." Fuzz said, "He's safe. Last I heard, he was in New Babbage, but he keeps teleporting over here to see if you've returned."

"Hotspur was kidnapped, we were going to rescue him....."

Fuzz smiled, "He's safe. He's helping pave a new path for the Celestial Kingdom. Sent us a letter last week."

Purdie smiled, "Splendid. Now, there's one more thing that needs to be done. If you don't mind."

"Of course, Purdie. What is it."

"Catch me"

And with that, Purdie passed out, falling backwards. Quickly, Fuzz ran to his cousin and caught him before he hit the floor. Mother Superior bent down and looked at Purdie.

"What's wrong with him?" Mother Superior asked

Fuzz shook his head, "Not sure. Maybe his regeneration wasn't completed. He travels through time. Maybe from his viewpoint, he was shot two minutes ago. There is a room on this ship. He showed me one day. Said if his body needed help in healing, the room would be able to help."

Fuzz got up and looked at the controls on one side of the console. He flipped a switch, only to be shocked.

"WRONG SWITCH" he yelled. He then flipped another switch, and watched as a pair of bookshelves on the second level dematerialized, revealing a room of white. "That's it. The Zero Room."

Fuzz went to his cousin and he and Mother Superior picked Purdie up. They started to walk to the stairs, when Fuzz noticed the little girl standing the console room doorway.

"Anya." Fuzz said, "What are you doing in here?"

"I smelled you." Anya replied

Fuzz raised an eyebrow and then nodded, "Ok. Stay there. We'll be right back."

Anya nodded as she watched the sheriff and Mother Superior carry Purdie up the stairs and into the room. Once inside the room, they laid his body on the floor.

"Now what?" Mother Superior asked

"We wait," Fuzz replied, "let his body finish the regeneration process, and hope it's soon. I'm going to need his help."

"Why?" the nun asked

"Anya caught my scent." Fuzz explained, "Even though she has the pointed ears, she shouldn't have the heightened senses until sometime before her thirteenth birthday. It's very peculiar."

"Ah..." Mother Superior said, "about her. There are things I do not like about this."

"There are alot of things that I do, have done, will probably wind up doing that you don't approve of. I've gone to Father Gregory each time you give me that look and confessed. So....Valerie and I slept together and not married, Anya was born out of wedlock. I've already confessed to the good priest, knowing you would be upset. To be honest, he's tired of me coming in."

Mother Superior smiled, "It's not that. Miss Greene has yet to tell the child that you are her father. There's the fact of waiting six years before telling you. And I'm very suspicious of her allegedly being scared to tell you after all this time."

"Good" Fuzz said, "I thought it was just me."

"You're playing along to see what she's up to? Well, I do believe that Anastasia is your daughter."

"Yea." Fuzz replied, "That I know for a fact. But the fact that Val's using her. That really bothers me. But, for now. Let's see about getting Anya some goodies from Lady Christine's shop."

The Steelhead Train Station

Angelica stormed out of the train station. Riven Homewood and CeAire DeCosta walked out and watched Angelica walk towards the hotel.

"Miss Greene left Fuzz six years ago." Riven said, "Pretty much breaking his heart. I don't think we should have told his sister, who loves her brother very much, that the woman who broke his heart was in Steelhead."

"Oh?" CeAire asked, "What do you think Angelica's going to do?"

The two looked at each other and smiled, then quickly followed Angelica.

The Steelhead Hotel Lobby

Valerie Green walked down the stairs and looked to see a tall blonde woman walk into the hotel. The woman then walked quickly to Valerie.

"Miss Greene?" the woman asked

"Yes?" Valerie replied

The woman then punched Valerie in the nose.

"My name's Angelica Trescothick." the woman replied, "Fuzzball's sister"

Voices Of The Past. Part Two

Eight Years Ago

Steelhead City

Fuzz stood in front of the ruins of what was once the Steelhead Hotel. In his hand was the sheriff's badge that Kattrynn Severine had pinned on him. He studied it closely, unsure on putting back on. Beside him, TotalLunar Eclipse was standing, studying the ruins of the hotel.

"Can you rebuild it?" Fuzz asked, not taking his eyes off the badge.

"I was thinking of starting over," Lunar replied "making it better and more grand. You should wear that badge. Miss Severine picked you to be Steelhead's new sheriff for a reason. You are the best qualified for the job."

Fuzz shrugged, "Still a bit reluctant. One minute a friend is sheriff, the next he's been fired and I'm given the badge."

Lunar gestured at the ruins, "All that strife beforehand caused this. It wasn't entirely his fault, but he still had to pay a price. He's aware of that, and accepted it. Now.....we rebuild Steelhead City, in both this building and it's reputation. It's what Miss Severine wants."

Fuzz chuckled as he placed the badge back on his jacket, "If Katt hears you refer to her as Miss Severine, she's going to kick your kiester up and down this street. Where's our mayor?"

Lunar looked at Fuzz, "As of this morning, Steelhead City has no mayor. He left."

Fuzz shook his head, "I don't want that job. You take it."

"Katt asked me to run." Lunar replied, "Not sure if it's for me."

Fuzz pointed at his badge, "I've been saying that for the past 24 hours. I'm supposed to be searching for my sister. But......" Fuzz looked around the quiet town, "there's something about this town."

"So you've said. Countless times. 'More to this town than what many believe' I think were your words."

"And I mean it. This town can be a place that people will remember for generations. So......" he looked at Lunar, "run for mayor. A Moon Elf mayor, a Lycan sheriff, throw Tensai in for good measure. Lead by example. The citizens will catch on....."

"And together," Lunar finished, smiling, "we can all work together to bring this town to it's full potential, and beyond."

The two smiled and looked at the ruins, again.

"We need a new hotel." Fuzz said

"Top of the list."

"Damn," a female voice said from behind "obviously this town knows how to party."

The two turned around to greet the newcomer. Fuzz gave a slight smile, recognizing the visitor.

"Hello, Valerie." he said

"Hello, Fuzzy." Valerie Greene replied

"I hate being called 'Fuzzy'." Fuzz told Lunar.

"He has that Moldavian arrogance," Valerie explained to Lunar, "Call him 'Fuzzy' every chance you get, keeps him humbled."

"TotalLunar Eclipse," Fuzz interrupted, "may I introduce Miss Valerie Greene. Lady Adventuress, and a royal pain in the neck sometimes."

"And you love it." Valerie told Fuzz as she turned to greet Lunar

"Vedui, Miss Greene" Lunar said, "What brings you to Steelhead?"

Valerie smiled and looked over at Fuzz, "Bit of business, and a bit of pleasure."
"Fuzz" Lunar noted, "You're turning red."

Eight Years Later

Steelhead City Air Docks

Fuzz stepped off the airship and made his way down the flight of steps from the airdock. As he reached the bottom, he was greeted by Sister Mary Katherine and Willard. Willard was squeaking loudly and fast.

"Willard," Fuzz said, "slow down. What about an earthquake?"

"Happened a few hours ago," Sister Mary Katherine explained, "no serious damage in town. The train was derailed, however. A lot of the passengers were injured. With the assitance of the Europan Consulate and other citizens, they were tended to and are all resting comfortably."

"Oh good," Fuzz said, "one less thing for me to worry about. I'll be at my office if I'm needed."

"Of course, Sheriff" Sister Mary Katherine replied

Willard hopped off the crates and followed Fuzz down the path, heading towards town hall.

Sheriff's Office, Town Hall.

Lunar walked into the office and found Fuzz at his desk, sifting through paperwork. Fuzz looked up at Lunar and greeted him with a nod. Lunar replied, also with a nod.

"So, I missed all the fun, huh?" Fuzz asked

"Oh yes," Lunar responded "a few damaged windows here in town. It's going to be a few days in regards to the train, due to a few damaged tracks. The injured are all resting comfortably."

"Good." Fuzz said, as he continued working on the paperwork.

Willard stepped out of the cell and looked at Lunar. Lunar glanced at the rat, then turned his attention back to Fuzz.

"Valerie's here, Fuzz." he said

Fuzz stopped briefly, not looking up, then continued signing the paperwork. Willard looked over at Fuzz, then back at Lunar. Lunar gave Willard a "Mind your own business" look, then continued his conversation with Lunar.

"She's asked about you," he continued "it's been awhile since you two last spoke."

Fuzz looked up at Lunar, "Six years. Ancient history."

"I think you might want to speak to her, Fuzz." Lunar said, as he walked closer to Fuzz's desk.

"Hmmph." was Fuzz's only reply.

"After all," Lunar continued "the little girl has your eyes."

Fuzz put the paperwork down, and looked at Lunar, who nodded slowly. Fuzz then got up from his desk and began walking out of the office.

"Hotel" Lunar said as Fuzz left the office. The Moon Elf then looked down at the jail rat, "Willard, I think perhaps we should visit Tensai's workshop basement. It's built to withstand any sort of explosions that may occur."

The Steelhead Hotel Lobby

Annechen Lowey and Tensai Hilra sat with Valerie Greene as her daughter drew on the artpad that Annechen brought for her.

"Your daughter's very cute." Tensai said, smiling, "This town needs more cute. I'm not always around to carry the load."

Valerie smiled, "Thank you. Not to sound arrogant, but I think she got the cuteness from me."

Annechen looked at the girl, then towards Valerie, "Miss Greene, has she shown any Lycan tendencies?"

"From what I've understood, that won't happen until she turns 13. However, every now and then she does seem to......"

Valerie stopped talking as she watched her daughter sniff the air and then quickly look towards the entrance of the hotel. The three ladies turned to see Fuzz walking through the door. Annechen turned towards Tensai.

"Perhaps we should leave." Annechen whispered

"Why?" Tensai asked, "If we left, we'd miss everything."

"Fuzz," Valerie said, smiling, "it's good to see you."

Fuzz simply stared at Valerie. He then looked at the little girl. Valerie motioned for her daughter, who got up and walked over to her mother. Valerie turned back to Fuzz.

"This is Anastasia. I call her Anya." Valerie looked down at her daughter, pointing at Fuzz, "This is Sheriff Ortega."

"Hello, Sheriff Ortega." Anya replied, extending her hand and smiling.

It was then that Fuzz smiled.

"Hello, Anya" he said, shaking her hand "Welcome to Steelhead."

"I don't like trains." she whispered

"Airships are more fun." Fuzz whispered back. He then looked at Valerie, "I have business to attend to."

Fuzz left the hotel. Valerie motioned for Anya to return to her drawings, then followed Fuzz. Annechen turned towards Tensai.

"He handled that very civil." she noted

"Yea," Tensai replied "he's getting soft. Shame, really."

Outside the Hotel

Fuzz turned to see Valerie walking up to him. He turned to continue walking, then stopped and turned his attention to her.

"I figured since you were from that part of Europe, I'd give her a name that was fitting." Valerie said, "Anastasia is a very pretty name, isn't it?"

Fuzz simply glared at her.

"And she's very smart." Valerie continued, smiling "A very quick learner. Wouldn't be surprised if she went to one of those big universities back East......"

Fuzz simply glared at her.

"OK" she yelled, causing a few passersby to stop and look, "I up and left you in the middle of the night. Nine months later, I'm holding your daughter in my arms. I'm sorry. Never told you, and you had every right to know. I was scared, Fuzz. I'm really sorry."

Fuzz turned and started to walk away.

"Is it ok," she asked "if I let her know who her father is?"

Fuzz stopped and turned back around.

"Lunar said that she had my eyes." Fuzz said

Valerie smiled and nodded

"She also has my mother's smile." Fuzz said as he turned and walked away.

He turned around the corner and found Old boB Ballyhoo stumbling towards him.

"boB," Fuzz said, "you know that bottle that you keep hidden from Lunar?"

boB simply stared at Fuzz, unsure on how to answer.

"I need a drink" Fuzz continued

boB smiled and put his arm around Fuzz, "I keep it hidden in the mayor's office."

"You keep it hidden from Lunar in his office?!?!" Fuzz asked

boB shrugged, "Last place he'll look."

New York Office Of Pinkerton Detective Agency

Angelica Trescothick studied the reports of the stolen merchandise that she and her associates had been investigating. She looked up to see a small wirey man walk in, pushing a cart with a pot of tea on it. She smiled at the man.

"Thank you, Henderson." she said

"A pleasure, Agent Tresothick." Henderson replied as he poured the tea for her. "How goes the latest investigation?"

Angelica shook her head, "I don't think the Golden Tock Lobster is still in New York. Who ever stole it, has skipped town."

"Oh dear," Henderson said as he handed her the cup, "where do you think they'll be heading."

"The artifacts that have been stolen," Angelica said as she sipped her tea, "The Molet Chalice, The Dagger Of Anubis, The Crown of Cornelius, and now the Golden Tock Lobster....it's all happened before. Agent Lockhart has gone to England to see that the Belt of Lady Chasity remains safe at the British Museum. That only leaves the Cross of Caledon."

"Will you be heading to Caledon, then?" Henderson asked

"No," Angelica replied, "not yet. My first stop is Steelhead City. My brother was part of the group of adventurers that recovered those items in the first place. Maybe he'll have some answers that'll help us get to the bottom of this case."

"I'll send word to have an airship standing by."

Steelhead City Hotel, Later That Night

In the apartment suite of the hotel, Valerie checked on Anya, who was sleeping. She then closed the door of the bedroom, and walked into the sitting area. She was startled as she saw a man with black hair slicked back and a busy mustache sitting in a chair.

"Cyrus," she said, "You've got to be careful in this town."

"Relax," Cyrus Slurge said, "with all the excitement from the earthquake, nobody's noticed. Did you get it?"

Valerie motioned to a trunk by the wall. Cyrus walked over to the trunk and opened it. Moving some blankets to the side, he pulled out the Golden Tock Lobster. He smiled as he looked at the statue.

"Val, you're amazing." he said

Valerie smiled, "It was a piece of cake. Did you get the other items?"

"Just got word that Sid got the Belt Of Lady Chasity." Cyrus replied, "He'll meet us in Caledon. We'll need your help in getting the Cross."

"Not a problem." Valerie replied

"And we'll need to get to Caledon without attracting attention."

Valerie smiled, "There's an airship captain, Angus GlitterRoch. We can hire him, he's pretty cheap. And if by chance he does recognize you.....we'll just take his ship."

Cyrus smiled as he pulled Valerie closer to him. "You and I are going to rule this world."

"One more thing." Valerie said, as she reached into the trunk and pulled out a box of silver bullets, "If the sheriff of this town starts to get too nosey, you take care of it. But ONLY if he starts snooping."

"Consider it done."
